Alfonso Arroyo

Our world was made a better place when Alfonso Jose Dominquez Arroyo (Al) was born on May 8, 1940 in Mt. Harris, Colorado. His parents were Isidro L. Arroyo and Jennie (Mary) Dominquez who preceded him in death. Al and his wife Kathryn (Coats) spent their last years of retirement in Loveland, Colorado. Among friends, family, and good neighbors, Alfonso passed away on February 8, 2012 at his home in Loveland, Colorado. Al spent 22 years of marriage with his first wife Nadine Utter (survived) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He later married his second wife, Kathryn (K.) on July 4, 1984 at their home in Craig, Colorado. Spending most of his life in Northwestern Colorado, Al worked for his father who owned Arroyo Brother’s Roofing, and spent his summers working for the U.S. Forest Service building trails and campgrounds on Rabbit Ears Pass. He later worked for Safeway as a Meat Cutter and then for the Routt County School District as a Custodian, Bus Driver and Score Keeper at High School basketball games. He retired from Savage Brothers Hauling where he transported coal for 28 years to the Hayden Power Plant. Al is survived by his wife K. Arroyo of Loveland, Colorado, daughter Cindey Jo Arroyo of Colorado Springs, Colorado and son Douglas Fitzgerald Arroyo and daughter-in-law Regina of Berkley, California and their children Russell Glenn and Alexis, three step sons; Mike Mulford, Matthew Mulford and daughter-in-law Maria of Cowden Kent, England and their children John Connor and Owen Joseph, and Tim Mulford. He is also survived by brother Jose Arroyo (Goldie) of Grand Junction, Colorado, sister Beatrice McBride (Sam) living in Sandy, Utah, brother Michael Arroyo (Janet) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and brother Isidro Arroyo Jr. (Carolyn) living in Thornton, Colorado. His oldest brother, Guadalupe Arroyo (Shirley survived) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado preceded him in death. Al lived a robust and gregarious life. He was an avid elk hunter and loved to fish, taking trips to Florida, Alaska and Mexico. He and his wife K. loved to travel to Europe spending time in Scotland, Spain, Morocco and France. The game of golf later became a passion in his life and he loved these outings with family and friends. Al contributed to his community by serving as an election judge and was unofficially known as “Da Mayor” in his neighborhood. He was especially proud of his time spent in Cuatla, Jalisco Mexico translating for Elementary school children. A Memorial dinner will be held at Tres Margaritas, 1417 Cheyenne Avenue in Loveland, Colorado at 6:30 PM on Monday, February 13th. A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM at Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Avenue in Craig, Colorado on Friday evening February 17. Mortuary will open at 6:00 PM. Catholic Mass will follow at the Catholic Church of St. Michael, 678 School Street, Craig, Colorado on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Craig Cemetery following the Mass. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to www.alpha1.org/about/donate.php in tribute to Alfonso.
