Matthew Daniel Mayes

Matthew Daniel Mayes passed into God’s embrace, August 8, 2013, after a fatal traffic accident in Huntington Beach, California. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church, 916 W Prospect Rd, Fort Collins, CO 80526, with Reverend Marc Salkin officiating. Memorials: the Fort Collins Lincoln Center for the Arts, the ASPCA, Project Homeless Connect in your community, or a charity of choice. Matthew was born on October, 21, 1986 to Curtis and Ann Mayes in Bedford, Texas. Matthew and his brother, Ryan, grew up in Arlington, Texas where the family lived for 21 years. They moved from Arlington to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2001. Matthew was a 2005 graduate of Fort Collins High School. Throughout high school, he enthusiastically participated in drama and theatre as well as the acapella and show choirs where he received many awards. Matthew had music in his DNA. After high school, Matthew attended both Front Range Community College in Fort Collins and Metropolitan State University in Denver. With his passion for music, Matthew moved to California in January of this year to pursue a career in sound/audio engineering. He was in the process of establishing residency to complete his education there. Matthew was employed by Orange County Singles, Irvine, CA where he worked in promotional marketing and customer service. In Fort Collins he was employed by Center Partners Inc., as a sales and customer service associate for T-Mobile Cellular. Matthew had a creative soul and imagination. He had a gift and a passion for writing music and lyrics and also expressed himself through his imaginative pen and pencil art drawings. He also loved hiking, long-boarding, snowboarding and skiing. Since he lived near the beach, he had expressed an enthusiastic desire to learn how to surf. Matthew had a compassionate heart and spirit which touched so many. He always held a special kind of love for his beloved pets and even wrote a song for one. Of all his passions, he loved his friends. There was nothing he would not do for them to lend a hand or listening ear. Matthew had the love and support of close extended family and many friends growing up in Texas, as well as his cherished friends in Colorado and California. Matthew was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Charles and Polly Lane and his beloved grandmother, Peggy Mayes. He is survived by his parents, Curtis and Ann Mayes, his brother, Ryan Mayes, his grandfather, Harry Mayes, his uncles, Chuck Lane, Carlos Oliva, Randy Mayes, Chris Mayes, and his aunts, Kathy Oliva, Carol Lane, Alicyn Mayes, Kathleen Ash-Mayes, Kathy Mayes, and his cousins, Adam, Scott, Joel, Nathan, Daniel, Shannon and Ian. Matthew felt fortunate and blessed to be surrounded by such a large loving family that extended across the miles. We will miss him immensely.
