Brenda Kay Stewart

November 25, 2018

Brenda Kay Stewart, of Fort Collins, left this Earth on Sunday, November 25, 2018 after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 66 years old. Brenda grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. Her mother, Helen died when she was young. Her father, Harry, an assistant fire chief, contractor and woodworker then married her stepmother, Kathryn. She grew up with her sister, Little Brenda, and four brothers Ed, Ron, Chris and Kevin enjoying the beach. She loved the ocean her entire life. Brenda lived in Puerto Rico, Virginia, Washington State and Cheyenne, Wyoming before she moved to Fort Collins several decades ago. She worked for the Larimer County Building Department for seven years and then at Colorado State University, where she worked with International Students for three years. Making friends all the way, Brenda touched everyone she met. Brenda was a depot agent for the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society (a.k.a., the City Park Trolley), where she loved working with everyone. She was a consummate artisan who loved to craft. Woodworking, painting and embellishing candles were among her passions. Brenda loved to sing and dance. She poured her heart into the Fort Collins senior center dances over several years. Among the many ways Brenda gave of herself, was to go every week to Seven Lakes Memory Care in Loveland CO for over three years. She sang for an hour and then spent the next thirty minutes saying goodbye to every resident. Brenda sang most recently with the ABLE quartet. This summer at the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department Mountain Festival she sang the most powerful version of Summertime we ever heard. She is survived by Larry Page, her partner in everything for the last 18 years, her stepmother, her four brothers, and countless friends. Her father, mother, sister and son, Rick, preceded her in death. Brenda was a fighter and believer throughout her life. She always gave without fear. She was always thankful, never thinking of herself. We were all blessed by every moment we had in Brenda’s presence. We are glad she is with her Savior, dancing in Heaven. Brenda’s work is showcased at sandmancandles.com, and you can always reach her at [email protected]
