Elva Louise Slonaker
October 16, 2018
Elva Louise Slonaker, 88, of Fort Collins, died peacefully October 16, 2018. Elva was born just down the road in Ault, Colorado in 1930 to parents Roy and Goldie Shaw. She grew up near Black Hollow Reservoir and graduated from Pierce High School. In 1950, Elva married Robert Beck and they had two sons, Wally and Bob. Then in 1980, she was married to Clyde Slonaker, with whom she travelled the world. Elva worked as an office manager at a medical clinic and in her time outside of work enjoyed quilting, beading, and of course travelling. She was also a member of the Canon City “Spirits of the Past” historical reenactors and supported their efforts. The lives of those who knew Elva will certainly be different without her personality around. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met (unless you deserved otherwise). She had an amazing sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes. She was a storyteller and a traveler, traversing North America in a converted Greyhound bus – always an adventure! Elva is survived by children, Wally Beck, Bob Beck, and Ron Slonaker; grandchildren, Erik Beck, and Rhonda Slonaker; friends, Linda Potter, and Jody Beagle; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by spouse, Clyde Slonaker; and siblings, Roy E. Shaw Jr., Lucille Van Why, Leonard (John) Shaw, and Clifford Shaw. A special thanks goes to the caring staff people at Center Avenue Health & Rehab and Pathways Hospice.
