James “Jim” Neubecker, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at his home in Fort Collins, Colorado. A long-time Fort Collins resident and active community member across Colorado’s Front Range, Jim was born in 1944 in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in Cleveland, Ohio by parents William and Rosanne Neubecker. He graduated from West Tech High School in Cleveland and subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963, elevating to the rank of Staff Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1967. Upon leaving the Air Force, Jim began his career at Bell Aerospace. Later, Jim embarked on a career as a pipefitter, joining the Cleveland Pipefitters Local Union and worked for Avery Engineering in management and supervision, relocating to Colorado in 1987, working as a skilled pipefitter across the Front Range until his retirement. Throughout his life, Jim was a dedicated union worker, an officer, and an activist in local and national union labor activities. He was a union organizer, Colorado state representative for the pipe trade industries and advisor to the UA, the national association for plumbers and pipefitters. Following his retirement, Jim directed his passion for labor and workforce development into community and public service at the local, state and national level. He proudly served on the Larimer County Workforce Investment Board, the Colorado Workforce Development Council, the Northern Colorado Labor Council, the Colorado Small Business Development Council and the Governor’s Small Business Council. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Carole Carnahan; his former spouse Bonnie DesSoye; daughter Bonnie Neubecker (Redding CA); son and daughter in-law Lt. Col. John Neubecker and Kelly Neubecker (Rocklin CA); stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Jill Carnahan and Michael Segler (Denver, CO); stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Tim Carnahan and Anastasia Masurat (Evanston, IL); and seven grandchildren Jonathan, Kile, Michael, Zachariah, Estelle, Lucinda and Grace. He is also survived by his brother, Carl Neubecker, and his spouse Sandy Neubecker (Naples, FL), brother Alan Neubecker (The Villages, FL) and brother Bill Neubecker (North Royalton OH). Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorena Neubecker. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., January 7th 2019 at Foothills Unitarian Church, 1815 Yorktown Avenue, Fort Collins, CO. Private interment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
