Kate Prewett
August 20, 2018
Kate Remembrance Prewett slipped the mortal bonds of this life August 20, 2018 at the age of 17. She passed away in her home surrounded in love by her parents, John and Megan Prewett, and her older brother, Tyler Prewett. A service to the witness of her resurrection will be held Monday, August 27, 2018, 5:30pm, at Faith Church located at 3920 S. Shields St., Fort Collins, Colorado, 80526. All recipients and witnesses to Kate’s boundless enthusiasm, love, and inclusive spirit are invited. Please note Kate specifically instructed her service shall be brightly colored and joyous! Kate lived her entire life in Fort Collins, Colorado where she attended McGraw Elementary, Webber Middle School, and Rocky Mountain High School. Kate passed away on what would have been the first day of her senior year. Although she excelled neither in academics nor sports, she was gifted with the uncanny ability to connect with people and make them feel welcomed, accepted, and loved. Kate was diagnosed with a glioblastoma on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Thereafter, she spent a year receiving treatment from Denver Children’s Hospital, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Duke University’s Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. Through it all, Kate never uttered a word of complaint nor lamented her diagnosis. Even at the end of her days, Kate strove to nurture personal connections with people, and she relished – and reciprocated – the love and support she received from her hometown. Kate will be missed in ways we are only beginning to realize. The deepness of our grief merely serves to indicate the extent to which she touched our lives. However, our collective hearts should be full and at peace in the realization of three truths: 1) Kate was a blessing to all who knew her. 2) Our grief is only temporary, for we shall see her again. 3) In the meantime, Kate will always be nearby so long as we also continue living this life with compassion, enthusiasm, and love.
