January 24, 1952 - March 18, 2017
Kate Higgins left this world on March 18, 2017. Kate moved to Fort Collins in 2102, after retiring from the University of Washington in Seattle, a city in which she had spent most of her adult life. She relished the pleasures of sunny Colorado days, and the company of family and extended family. Her joys in life included biking and running, her generations of dogs, gardening, and cooking. Kate was a faithful volunteer for over 20 years at Seattle Children’s Hospital, a job that gave to others and brought her much solace and smiles. Kate was a dear sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by her identical twin and soulmate Ann of Fort Collins, brothers Steve (Carol) of St. Louis, Matt (Lin) of Hammond, Oregon, sister Jane (Dan) of Fort Collins, numerous nieces and nephews, including “adopted” nieces and nephews, and special friends - the Matonis family, Leif, Maria, Jane, Michele and Nora, guides Craig and Maggie, and Kate’s beloved dog Emma. We will all miss her quiet humor, mischievous sparkle in her eyes, the grace with which she faced frequent adversity, and her quiet strength. Donations to Pets Forever c/o Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine or to Child Safe (1148 E Elizabeth St, Fort Collins, CO 80524) or to the Seattle Children’s Hospital and Research Foundation, M/S S-200, PO Box 5371, Seattle, WA 98145 (may be made to honor Kate. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
