Robert Matthew "Matt" McCartney

Matt McCartney, 48, passed away July 26, 2018 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was born in Elgin, Illinois to Robert Lee and Dorothy Virginia “Ginger” McCartney. Matt spent the majority of his life in Colorado, graduating from Wheat Ridge High School in 1988 and receiving a B.S. in Speech Communications from Metropolitan State University in 1994. He worked in sports journalism in Denver for several years before moving into the financial industry as a Loan Officer, his lifelong career. Matt was a hard worker who loved his job and was passionate about helping people fulfill their dream of owning a home. His dedication to his clients and coworkers earned him much respect and many accolades over the years. Matt was passionate about sports, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He coached his son and many other children for 7 years through Fort Collins Baseball Club. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics of Colorado. Matt was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Robert Lee and Barbara Ann McCartney. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Ginger and Duane Huggins, his sisters, Lori Anne Weir and Holly (John) Lynn Toomey; his wife of 22 years, Dana McCartney; and by his two sons, Jacob Walter “Jake” and Robert David “Robby” McCartney, who were the absolute pride and joy of his life. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held Monday, August 6 at 10 a.m. at Timberline Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Fort Collins Baseball Club, Special Olympics of Colorado or the American Cancer Society.
