Tress Engstrom

Tressie Pauline Engstrom, Tress to all that knew her, was born in Ft. Lupton, Colorado September 16, 1926 to Alex and Sophia (Biesner) Bowles. She passed away at home in Ft. Collins January 21, 2021. She attended Beebe Draw Grade School in La Salle, Colorado and Greeley High School. After graduation, WWII drew Tress to civilian service at Hill Field, Utah, the Casualty Branch of the War Department in Washington DC and the Prisoner of War Camp west of Greeley, Colorado. On December 19, 1947 she married Fred Engstrom in Greeley and the couple made their first home in Ft. Collins, Colorado where she worked as a dental assistant and in the Agronomy Department at Colorado A&M. She gave birth to a daughter at Poudre Valley Hospital and after moving to Denver, Colorado she gave birth to a son at Porters Hospital. In Denver, Tress devoted her time to being a mother and housewife but managed to volunteer at the Ft. Logan gift shop, Infant of Prague Orphanage, audio testing infants at Denver General Hospital and sewing with the alter guild at St. Barnabus Church. Tress was meticulous about her grooming and her dress and received many compliments on how she decorated her home. Tress loved to dance and in their retirement years the couple lived in their winter home in Mission, Texas to enjoy square dancing at all levels with enthusiasts from many states and countries. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister. She is survived by her husband, brother, daughter, son, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Celebration of life services are pending.
