Valerie Vero, 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in Fort Collins, Colorado, on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, New York. She excelled in typing, stenography and all her subjects. After graduating she traveled to Mexico City to visit her pen pal. She then worked in New York City where she worked as a secretary at J. Walter Thompson and Vogue magazine. While at J. Walter Thompson, she met Frank Vero. They married on April 23rd, 1960. Living in various places in New York, while raising three boys, she worked as a medical secretary at Putnam Community Hospital and owned a business, Wools and Yarns of Mahopac. After the boys were done with school, Frank and Valerie moved to Fort Collins in 1988. In Colorado, Valerie worked as a transcriber at CSU and typed student papers. Frank and Valerie started Specially Colorado, a business providing artwork online and at craft shows, which Valerie attended all over Colorado. She then pursued her favorite hobby of knitting and started Nanaval’s Hand Knits. She loved to read, feed the birds, cook delicious food and root for the Rockies and Broncos. She was our sports encyclopedia. She loved all her cats. Valerie is survived by her husband Frank, her sister Mary, three sons; Paul (Patricia), Tim (Karen) and Christopher, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her cat, Sylvester. The immediate family attended her viewing at Goes Funeral Care and Crematory, April 4th. Her service was held at St. John’s XXIII on April 5th in Fort Collins. Memorial funds can be made to the American Lung Association.
