Alvin Lewis McFall was born September 5, 1921, on a farm in Crowley, Colorado, located in the Arkansas Valley. He passed away May 29, 2010, in Fort Collins, after several years of declining health. He is to be cremated and buried in Grandview Cemetery with military honors. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 4th, at First Presbyterian Church, 531 S. College, Ft. Collins. A reception will follow in Shepardson Hall at the church. Al's family farmed and ranched in Del Norte, Colorado, in the San Luis Valley. He came up to Fort Collins to attend CSU and was soon drafted during the World War II effort. He served 4 years in the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant. After the war, he returned to ranching in Del Norte. On November 19, 1950, he married Lorna Socolofsky at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins. They eventually moved up to their ranch in Buckeye, Colorado. In 1993 he retired and began to travel and camp. They wintered for many years in Florence, Arizona. Al was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and was proud of his military service. He served as past commander of the American Legion in Del Norte. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Del Norte. He is survived by Lorna, his wife and best friend for over 60 years; three children, Linda (and Roger) DeWitt of Ft. Collins, Loren (and Brenda) McFall of Littleton, Colorado, and Lurene (and Lewis) Sturm of Roswell, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Ray Kruse of Ft. Collins; six grand children: Leslie DeWitt Doss, Carol DeWitt, Adam and Zach Sturm, Sarah Reeser and Cortney Rehnberg; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas James and Elizabeth McFall and by his siblings, Edna Kruse and Jim McFall.
