Alphy Mae Christen, 86 years old, passed into eternity on March 3, 2023 following complications from Vascular Dementia and Covid. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Duane John Christen, daughter Dayna, sons Steve, Scott and Dan, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Alphy was born on June 20th, 1936 in St. Cloud, Minnesota and raised in Newton, Iowa by her mother Barbara who was a homemaker and father Lee who was a doctor. She had three brothers precede her in death, Jerome, Ben and Leon Adams.
She met Duane John Christen in 1952 when she was a sophomore and he was a senior at Newton High School while in choir. Alphy graduated from Iowa State Teachers College with a degree in elementary education and music. They married in 1958 and started their family in 1960 and decided to move to Long Beach, CA. They raised four children and had 7 grandchildren and 5 greats and they were known as "Grammy and Grampy."
Alphy was a homemaker, elementary school teacher, choir member, bible study leader, girls youth leader, participated in the women's missions church group and took care of her elderly mother. She was a Godly women who supported her husband (even when it was difficult to do so) doing him GOOD all the days of her life. She was a loving mother who rightly used "the ROD" on her ornery children. If Mom's correction didn't assist them back to good behavior, Dad's would! They truly worked together hand and hand, as a TEAM!
They retired and moved to Ft. Collins Colorado in 1992 where they enjoyed being Grandparents, traveling, serving and singing at church, enjoying the outdoors, doing the gym and breakfast with friends and enjoying hosting many family and friends at the "Christen B & B."
She loved the Lord with all her heart and no doubt heard "well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the JOY of your Lord!"
A memorial service is planned for 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on June 14, 2023 at Timberline Church in Fort Collins, CO.
