Amy Lou Gardner passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025 surrounded by family and loved ones.
The youngest of three children, Amy Lou was born October 19th, 1930 in Minot, North Dakota to Nicholas and Amy Krick. She graduated from Minot High School and then went on to study education, graduating from the Miss Woods Kindergarten Training School at Macalester College and from Minot State University, where she belonged to Tri Sigma Sorority and PEO Sisterhood chapter DO. After graduation, she taught Kindergarten in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Great Falls, Montana, Palo Alto, California, and Denver.
She married John L. "Jack" Gardner in 1959 and moved to Denver to raise their family. They moved to Fort Collins in 1977. Amy Lou returned to teaching in Fort Collins, at both the Peace With Christ Lutheran Church and Children's World preschools. Family has always been her number one priority. Amy Lou was a people person. Her interests included friends, baking, playing bridge, shows, movies and concerts, exercise and sports, church, and neighborhood activities.
Amy Lou is survived by her three children and their families: Suzy Barr, Nick Gardner, Mike (Ana) Gardner. She has four grandchildren: Miles Barr (deceased), Maria (Nicolai) Matthies, Jason Gardner, and Erica Gardner. She has two great grandchildren, twins Aevar and Branoc Matthies. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, sister Darlene, and brother Dennis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 5450 South Lemay Ave, Fort Collins, Colorado. Private Commitment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Arthritis Foundation (arthritis.org).
