Ann Margaret Irvine

Ann (Margaret) Irvine, 79 passed away surrounded by her
children and love on June 8, 2016 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Alzheimer's impacted her independence and abilities but it
could not strip her positive nature, sweet comments, and loving
heart.

A celebration of life will be at First Plymouth Church in
Lincoln, NE on July 14, 2016 from 1-4 p.m.

Survivors include: Karen (Fort Collins), Brad (Jennifer), Mark
(Ginny), 10 grandchildren, ex-husband Larry Irvine; sisters
Sue Kempkes, Jo (Gary) Sanders; brother-in-law Dave Ely;
many nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends.

Ann was born to Esca and Kathryn Milne on 3/31/1937 in
Okmulgee, Oklahoma as the second daughter born to Esca and
Kathryn Milne. At a young age, Ann and family moved to
Grand Island, NE and the family was complete with four
daughters - Sue, Ann, Jo, and Jean. Ann graduated from Grand
Island Senior High in 1955 and attended Kearney State
Teacher's College. In 1959 Ann married Larry Irvine and they
began a family in Milford where she then began her Home
Economics teaching career at Milford High School.
In 1965 Ann pursued a master's degree at the University of
Nebraska. After taking 5 years off she continued her teaching
role at the University until 1974.
From 1974 to 1998 she was the Family & Consumer Sciences
Curriculum Consultant for the Lincoln Public Schools. In
addition to that responsibility she took on the role of Personal
Social Curriculum Consultant from 1974-1980 and then the
Educational Equity Administrator from 1980-1998. Ann's
vision, diligence and collaboration ushered in the move from
Home Economics to F&CS; implementation of multicultural
education, equity trainings and student conferences; and the
creation of the student parenting program. Concurrently she
served on the Human Rights Commission as well as held
leadership within the state and national level professional
organizations.
After retirement, Ann became a Success: Full & Sylvan
Trainer and an adjunct professor for Critical Thinking courses
at UNL.

Over the years she was a member of the Women's Institute of
Theology, Prairie Peace Park Board, First Plymouth Women's
Board, and Friendship House Board of Directors.
Recognitions include receiving in 1987 the YWCA Tribute to
Women Award, 1991 LPS Educational Administrators
Leadership Award, 1995 Nebraska Home Ec Association
Leader Award, 1998 Lincoln NAACP Educator Award, 1998
KZUM Cultural Award, 1998 feature in National Geographic
for student parenting program, and 2005 First Plymouth
Notable Woman Award.
