Arlene Lucille Mccarthy

Oct 31, 1928 — Jan 16, 2025

Arlene Lucille McCarthy of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away at the age of 96 on January 16, 2025 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed greatly.

She was born to Frank and Mildred Hemauer on October 31, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating from Oconomowoc High School in 1946, Arlene was living with her parents when she became literally the girl next door. Arlene met her future husband, Donald McCarthy, when he visited his older brother – a neighbor to her parents. They were married two years later in Milwaukee and recently celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary in September 2024. Together they raised two daughters, Judith and Barbara.

In 1989, Arlene retired from a decades-long career as a clerical supervisor with L.M. Berry, Co. in Wisconsin. She and Don moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona where she enjoyed golfing, reading, knitting, and especially quilting. She leaves behind many beautiful quilts that she gifted to friends and family. Don and Arlene moved to Fort Collins in 2017 to be near family.

Arlene is survived by her husband Don, daughters Judy (Gary) Holtzen, Barbara (John Moren) McCarthy, six grandsons, twelve great-grandchildren, sister Sharon Kaczmarski, brother John (Joyce) Hemauer, and sister-in-law Shelby Hemauer. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Frank and Ronald Hemauer.
