Bernard Clayton Maynes

Bernard "Beanie" Clayton Maynes, 86, passed away peacefully at his assisted living residence in Fort Collins on June 13, 2022, almost three years after losing his beloved wife of 61 years. He continually missed her presence.

Bernard was born in Silverton, Colorado in 1935 to his parents and one older brother. He graduated from Durango High School in 1954 and enjoyed attending and hosting get togethers with his high school classmates through the years.

Bernard married Patricia Keller on September 1, 1957 and embarked on a honeymoon that included Devil's Tower, Old Faithful, and feeding a bear by hand. He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in accounting, and practiced for many years in Julesburg, Colorado, and then relocated his practice to Fort Collins in 1980.

Bernard enjoyed playing cards at the Elks club, being involved in community organizations (Rotary, Elks, Lions), following and officiating high school sporting events, and annual trips to Las Vegas with friends and family.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, sibling, and wife. He is survived by his three children: Steve Maynes, Bob Maynes, and Kay (Lance) Holter all of whom live in the Fort Collins area, and grandsons Max and Jack Holter. He is also survived by and several cousins, nieces and nephews, many of whom he enjoyed connecting with through phone calls and telling stories of their times together growing up in Southwestern Colorado.
