William J. Sullivan, MD, pediatric physician with the Ft. Collins Youth Clinic, went to God at 11:05 pm Friday, March 28, 2008, surrounded by family, friends, and the love of thousands, after a year long battle with cancer. Born in Ancon AFB, Canal Zone Panama while his father was on active duty on December 23, 1957; he spent most of his formative years in University City, MO. After completing his medical education and eight years as a USAF Pediatrician, he moved with his family to Ft. Collins, CO in July, 1990. He was a graduate of University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine in 1982, served in the USAF Medical Corps from 1982 until 1990, discharged with the rank of Major. He received the status of Diplomat from the American Board of Pediatrics in 1987. He has been an active member of the medical staff of Poudre Valley Hospital, Ft. Collins, CO 1990-2007, and served as Vice-Chief of Pediatrics and QAI Chair in 1993-94 and 2002-03, and as Chief, Pediatric department 1995-96 and 2003-04, as well as the initial Vice Chief, Pediatric Department for the Medical Center of the Rockies 2006-2007, where he was instrumental in developing the Level I nursery. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Donna Lippert Sullivan, MD (1976 graduate of Union High School) and four children, daughter Erin Sullivan-Ortiz and her husband Israel of Greeley, CO, son Curtis Sullivan of Indianapolis, IN and daughters Kathryn and Megan Sullivan of the home, his mother Mrs. Jean Sullivan of University City, MO and in-laws Dr. Jake and Anna Lippert of Camdenton, MO. Also three half-brothers, three brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, their spouses and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and classmates. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph L. Sullivan. In addition to providing exceptional care of children in Ft Collins, Windsor, and Loveland, he was an extraordinary educator of patients, nurses, peers, and Family Medicine and Pediatric residents. "Doc" Bill's greatest passion was skiing, particularly heli-skiing in Canada and snow-cat skiing in Colorado and Utah; he was an avid golfer and bowler. He also traveled with his family camping throughout the west and northwest. He was a strong supporter of CSU Athletic programs. (...go RamNation!) A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm, Thursday, April 3, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (5450 S. Lemay Ave, Ft. Collins, CO). All are invited to the recitation of the rosary which begins at 4:50 pm Thursday followed by the daily 5:15pm Mass.
