Blake Wilkinson passed from this life on March 26th, 2017, in Greeley, Colorado after struggling with cancer for several months. Blake, who was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on October 24th, 1950, was the son of Vern and Beth (Miller) Wilkinson of Laramie, Wyoming. Blake attended Laramie High School and then, like many of his generation, spent a number of years as a "hippy" living in communes in California, Omaha, and other places. A hard worker, he made his living as a residential and commercial painter, settling in the Kansas City area, and most recently moving to Colorado. Later in life Blake discovered that he had a talent and love for art, and he began incorporating his artistic faux finishes into construction projects. He enjoyed experiences among artist communities in Kansas and Colorado, excelling in oil painting, with a special interest in the use of copper and gold-leaf gilding. He also enjoyed photography, sculpture, and casting bronze. Blake, who enjoyed his persona as an "ornery" and "obstreperous" person, was always willing to give a hand, and helped and encouraged numerous people. In recent years he connected with hundreds of old and new friends through Facebook, where he was appreciated for his kind-hearted and humorous comments. He is survived by his fiancé Michelle Grant of Greeley, CO, daughters Miriam and Rachel, brother Tim (Diane) Wilkinson, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat SuzyQ. Blake was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his son Moshe. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 30, at St. James Orthodox Christian Church, 2620 Southeast Frontage Road, Fort Collins, CO, with a light meal following. Burial will be at 3:30 pm that day at Green Hill Cemetery in Laramie, WY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hospice organization of your choice.
