Bonnie S. Humrich of Loveland, Colorado, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on October 7th, 2026, at the age of 84.
Bonnie was born in Smith Center, Kansas on June 19, 1942, to Herbert Ivan Phetteplace and Bernice Lucille Phetteplace (Ford). Bonnie graduated in 1960 from Smith Center High; she also spent time as a lifeguard at the Smith Center community swimming pool. As a young lady in high school, she enjoyed being captain of the tumble team, playing tenor saxophone in the marching band, school paper photographer, and senior class president. On weekends you could find her at the lake waterskiing and camping with family and friends. She continued this love of the lake while she was raising her children.
In 1963, Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, Paul L Humrich Jr, and moved to Denver, Colorado to begin their new life together and start a family. In 1965 their daughter, Amy S., was born, followed by their son, Paul P., in 1967.
Bonnie spent her early career at Nabisco bakery, a local hospital, and transcribing legal notes for an attorney. In 1976, Bonnie and Paul had the opportunity to purchase a Firestone store in Longmont, CO, where they were the Owner and Operator. In 1986 she divorced Paul and moved to Connecticut to “start over” and be close to her sister, Glenda and brother-in-law, Bob. She was employed at Hubbell for the next 22 years until retirement in 2007. She then moved back to Colorado to be closer to her kids and grandkids.
In Connecticut Bonnie had a great circle of friends in boating life. In 1988 she met Kirk and they enjoyed many years seeing the New England states by water. Her family loved to visit as Bonnie enjoyed sharing her life and new experiences. In 2001 Kirk passed away.
Bonnie will be remembered as a loving and caring mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. She has always had artistic ability. She enjoyed ceramics, macrame and her love for quilting, as well as a seamstress designing her family clothes. Family was the center of her life, and there was not much she wouldn’t do for them. She loved family gatherings at any time, but Christmas with family, from her baking of many goodies to the large gatherings, this was her favorite. Bonnie lived her life in a way that set the standard for her kids and grandkids. She was always strong, loving and did it the right way!
She is survived by her daughter Amy Humrich and partner Susan Hedrickson of Ft Collins, CO; her son Paul P. Humrich and wife Leslie M. Humrich of Johnstown, CO; 4 Grandkids, Christopher M. Faronea and fiancé Allison Heard of St. Petersburg, FL; Paul R. Humrich and wife Caidyn Humrich of Greeley, CO; Ben Hendrickson and wife Kacey Hendrickson of Ft Collins, CO. Anjali Kristen Hendrickson and partner David Plough of Westminster, CO. 5 Great grandchildren Paul D., and Shaylynn D. Humrich, Henry D and Juniper E Hendrickson, Emerson D Klaff, Evan Plough; and her siblings, Glenda Jones (Phetteplace) and husband Bob Jones; Pam Ayres (Phetteplace) and husband Brad “Bud” Ayres.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Herbert Ivan Phetteplace in 1969 and Bernice Lucille Phetteplace (Ford) in 2007. Shirley Johnson (Phetteplace) in2003.
There will be a graveside memorial service at Fairview Cemetery in Smith Center, KS, date to be announced.
