Bonnie Jane Wilson

Jun 1, 1928 — Mar 15, 2017

Bonnie Jane Wilson, 88, of Wellington, Colo., passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Poudre Valley Hospital, following a sudden and devastating stroke.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wellington Community Church, 8445 3rd St. A private viewing will be held at 2 p.m. and Internment will follow the service at 5 p.m. at Wellington's Highland Cemetery.
Bonnie was born June 1, 1928, on a homestead near Craig, Colo., to Charles and Evelyn Wilcox. Being a rig-builder's daughter, Bonnie lived in various oil-field towns in Texas and Oklahoma, before her family settled down on a farm in Loveland that they called, Wagon Wheels. Bonnie worked at their family tea room there, helping her mother serve up their famous fried chicken dinners and cherry pie. Bonnie attended Loveland High School, graduating in the class of 1946.
Bonnie met the love of her life, Harold Wilson, while he was home on leave from the Navy, whom she married Jan. 27, 1947. Their marriage of 58 years was a celebration of love and care for one another.
In 1950 Harold and Bonnie fulfilled a lifelong dream of farming by moving to an 80-acre farm northwest of Wellington. Bonnie and Harold felt privileged to live a simple country life, and bring up their three children, David, Kathleen and Becky in the peaceful rural atmosphere of their farm.
Bonnie was Harold's "right-hand farm hand" helping him drive tractors, haying equipment and sileage trucks. They raised pinto beans, sugar beets, corn, hay and wheat, for over 50 years. She also loved taking care of her large garden. She could be found weeding, planting, watering and hoeing in her garden from dusk till dawn all summer! Unless it was a family dinner day, where she would spend an entire day in the kitchen fixing their farm-raised fruits, meats and vegetables in full dinner spreads that her whole family will never forget. Her applesauce cookies, apple pies and beautiful fruit flans were legendary!
Bonnie also enjoyed reading, games, puzzles and spelling homework with grandchildren, along with travelling with her husband and family. They made many memorable trips in their Red Dale camper to visit their daughter Kate in Idaho, son David in Canada, and on to Alaska, along with many other road trips across the country. Later in life, Bonnie even ventured abroad to Switzerland and the Holy Land in Israel.
The only thing that came before family, farming and food to her – was her stalwart faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Her simple, child-like faith in Him showed in the way she lived her life as a farmer's wife, mother and grandmother – putting her whole trust in Jesus. Bonnie faithfully served as a member of the Wellington Federated (now Wellington Community), Friends and Bethel Baptist churches. She sang in the church choir, served as a Sunday School Book keeper and attended many Bible studies throughout her years.
A few years after her husband went to be with the Lord, Bonnie came to live with her daughter Becky and son-in-law John, also of Wellington. Together they spent her last seven years sharing the household chores, gardening, cooking, and hosting many family gatherings. She also enjoyed many leisure hours reading with her beloved cat, Sweetie.
Bonnie is survived by her son David Wilson, and wife, Audrey, of Grimshaw, Alberta; her daughters, Kathleen Mitchell, and husband, Tom, of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Becky Waldo, and husband, John of Wellington, Colo.; her five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Wilcox and many cherished church friends.
Her parents, husband and a beloved grandson preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideons International Bible Ministry in care of Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Dr., Fort Collins, Colo., 80524.
