Brian James Barnes

Brian Barnes, 48 of Fort Collins, CO died November 17, 2013 at his home. Cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Discovery Fellowship Church, 6630 Brittany Drive, Fort Collins. Interment will be in Ottawa, Kansas.

Brian James Barnes was born June 13, 1965 in Ottawa, Kansas to Roy and Denise Barnes, where he was raised on the family farm. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1983 and went on to Kansas State University in Salina, Kansas to study Civil Engineering & Surveying. He moved to Fort Collins in 1985 and began working for a local engineering firm. His passion was mountain surveying; the more rugged the better. He soon met and married Laura Cecchinelli and together they have a daughter, Kelsey.

Brian worked for many years as a crew chief for the Larimer County Surveying Department. He also owned and operated Precision Land Surveying. He was a devoted father, brother, and friend whose priority in life was to help anyone in need. He was exceptional at wood working, enjoyed dual-sport motorcycling, and spending time hunting, fishing, and visiting family in Kansas. Other favorite activities included shooting sports, cooking, and anything outdoors. Above all, his daughter was his pride and joy.

Brian is survived by his daughter, Kelsey, his mother, Denise Barnes of Baldwin City, KS; three brothers, Kent and wife Carol of Fort Collins, Mark and wife Sandy of Ottawa, KS, and Clayton of Ottawa. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Cameron, Lauren, Carson, and Kaitlyn Barnes of Ottawa, and Sierra and Rachel Barnes of Fort Collins. He was preceded in death by his father Roy, and his brother Stephen.
