Caesar Robert Santangelo

Caesar was born May 24, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The oldest of three children born to Cesare and Marie (D'Onofrio) Santangelo. His sister JoAnne Santangelo of Cincinnati, Ohio predeceased him in death in 1999. His brother Jim Santangelo still lives in Cincinnati as well as several cousins.

After graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1949, Caesar attended Xavier University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon his return from service, Caesar enrolled in the University of Cincinnati Master of Education program. This began an almost 40-year career as an educator. He spent the majority of his career teaching and working with students with special needs.

He married Mary Anne Dehan, daughter of James and Mary Katherine (nee Coffey) Dehan on August 7, 1971, at St. Columbkille Church in Wilmington, Ohio. His marriage to Anne gave him five wonderful brothers-in-law: Jim (deceased), Bob (deceased), Tom (deceased), Mike, and Dan as well as loving sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Caesar and Anne's only child, a daughter, Amy Cathleen, was born on October 5, 1972, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Caesar loved being a dad and was actively involved in Amy's life throughout her childhood. He especially loved coaching Amy's soccer teams throughout the years. He supported her during her four years at the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1995 with an Accountancy degree and then when she graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1999.

It was in September 1999 when Caesar and Anne welcomed their Son-in-Law Alan Nguyen McKellar, son of William and Suong (nee Nguyen) McKellar into their family. Amy and Alan's marriage produced four wonderful grandchildren whom Caesar adored. Maggie and Molly, born in December 2003; Catie, born in December 2006; and Brendan, born in February 2009.

Caesar and Anne helped Amy's family with their move to Fort Collins, Colorado in May 2005. They loved visiting their family during summers and holidays. Caesar especially loved when Amy and her family would return to Cincinnati for a visit. He loved driving his grandkids around Cincinnati and showing them off to anyone he met. 😊

Caesar and Anne moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in the spring of 2013 to be closer to Amy and her family. They enjoyed spending time with their family and watching the grandkids' sporting events, music performances, and any other school activities in which the grandkids participated. This was the highlight of their years in Colorado. Being an artist himself, Caesar loved getting any drawings or painting that his grandkids made. Anne always said that having grandkids in their lives kept them young.

Caesar passed away on March 24, 2024, at the age of 92. His funeral will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fort Collins, Colorado at 10:30 a.m. on April 5, 2024.
