Carl Moss (86) of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly Champaign, Illinois resigned his walk with life and began his glorious journey with the Lord on Friday, July 01, 2011 after a battle with Parkinson's disease. Carl was born September 16, 1924 to Joseph Monroe Moss and Minnie Pearl (Pharr) Moss of Tishomingo County, Mississippi. He is survived by his siblings Eula Mae Brown, Helen Raye Barnes and Billy Joe Moss all from North-Eastern Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his older brothers Arthur David Moss and Lester Arthur Moss. He attended Burton High school, East Mississippi Community College, and Florence Alabama State Teachers College now University of Northern Alabama, where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1949. Carl served in World War II, 84th Infantry Division as a first aid medical-technician. He received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained on the front line of duty in Belgium, Battle of the Bulge. He taught school in Northeast Mississippi from 1950-1953; worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Florence, Alabama 1953-1957; and moved to Champaign, Illinois in 1957 to work as a chemist in the agricultural environment. He retired from Archer-Daniels-Midland , formerly known as Swift & Co soybean plant, later acquired by A.E. Staley, after 29 years of service. In 1992 Carl and his wife, Mildred, moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. Carl married Mildred Christine Woodruff under the old oak tree in Alcorn County, Mississippi on April 26, 1942. They celebrated 59 years of marriage just before the death of Mildred in 2001. Together the two brought life to five children all surviving: Carl Lowery Moss of North Carolina, Christy Gale Taylor of Illinois, Tommy Harold Moss of Colorado, Sherry Anita Kinnamon of Oklahoma, and Penny Camille Moss of Texas. He has nine grandchildren who survive: Michael Moss, Matthew Moss, Michelle Taylor Howell, Timothy Taylor, Katy Moss Deckard, Kellen Moss, Abby Kinnamon, Joel Kinnamon, Samuel Kinnamon and eleven great grandchildren who survive: Courtney, Joshua, and Justin Moss, Cole and Savannah Moss, Suzanne and Shannon Bigelow, Emma and Grace Taylor, and Jake and Kennedy Deckard. Also surviving are his daughters in-law: Linda Moss and Mariam Masid, and sons in-law, Ronald Taylor and John Kinnamon. His daughter-in-law Debra Robinson Moss precedes him in death. Carl was a devoted husband and father who raised his household to serve the Lord. He served as an elder with the Lincoln Avenue/Philo Road Church of Christ in Urbana, Illinois for 30 years. Carl was a member with the Meadowlark Church of Christ in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was an exceptional gardener and fisherman. Carl also loved spending time with his family and friends, playing cards and board games. One of Carl's favorite pastimes was any event involving ice cream. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 6th at DaySpring Christian Church, 8005 Highland Meadows Parkway in Windsor. He will be laid to rest with his beloved, Mildred at 2:p.m. Wednesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, with full military honors.
