Carla Radloff

Dec 12, 1949 — Apr 15, 2012

Carla Faye Radloff, a dedicated servant of her Lord, was born on December 12, 1949, in Cozad, NE, and died Sunday, April 15, 2012, in Albany County, WY. Carla was the fourth of five daughters of Rev. Ralph and Doris (Rumbaugh) Radloff. She grew up in parsonages in Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas and Colorado. She graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1967, received a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University and a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She worked as a speech therapist in elementary schools in Delta, CO and Thermopolis, WY. She was called by the Lord to work in Bible translation in 1980. God placed the people of Western Asia on Carla's heart in 1981 and she has been serving there since 1982. She desired to see the Word of God translated into the spoken language of the mountain people. That desire inspired her in the many years of linguistic research and analysis which have led to the development of the written form of the language and materials for teaching it. She authored several books and many journal articles regarding her work. Carla's deep faith and love for Jesus, her joy in living, and her sense of humor inspired and comforted many across the world. She especially enjoyed being in the Rocky Mountains at the family cabin, spending time with her family and playing her guitar. Carla is survived by an uncle, Duane M. Rumbaugh of Highland Park, New Jersey; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Margretha and Donald Bentz and Susan Osborn of Loveland, and Ida and Robert Tieman of Fort Collins; nieces Katherine Bentz, Kristi Huff, Janna (Steve) Walker, Jessica (Tim) Blackwood, Kimberly Osborn-Linnebur and Kellie Lamon; nephew Kendall (Carrie Green) Bentz; and five great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Karen Reinhart, and nephew Matthew Tieman. A Celebration of Life for Carla Faye Radloff will be held Monday, April 23, 2012, 10:00 am at King of Glory Lutheran Church, Loveland. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators (in memory of Carla Radloff), PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862-8200.
