Carol Burch

Dec 21, 1933 — Jan 8, 2008

Carol Jollene Burch was born in Waite Park, MN, the daughter of Roy and Josephine Carlson. She received degrees in elementary education from St. Cloud Teachers College and the University of Minnesota. After teaching in Saulk Center and St. Paul, she fulfilled her childhood dream of living in Japan by teaching for the DoD Dependent Schools in Tokyo in 1960. She transferred to England in 1961 where she met Leslie. They married in 1962. In addition to assignments in England they taught in Libya, Germany, Spain, and completed their careers in Japan. Their three daughters were born and educated overseas until they returned to study at universities in the U.S. In 1990, Carol and Leslie returned to the U.S. and lived in northeast Tennessee before moving to Colorado in 1995. They continued to travel the world together. Carol's love for the colors of the world was reflected in her vibrant and eclectic collection of textiles and traditional arts and crafts that enliven her home. This love was reflected in her own imaginative and accomplished creations. Carol was an avid reader and loved discussions of books with her long time reading group friends. She served as an Election Judge for several years and she enjoyed being a delegate to the Colorado Democratic Convention. Carol took particular joy in her gardens which drew frequent praise from neighbors and walkers passing her house. She worshipped at Blessed John XXIII Catholic Church. Carol is survived by her husband Leslie, three daughters, three grandchildren, and two brothers. Her loving consideration for her family and friends, as well as her zest for life, will be remembered by all who were blessed by her presence. Any remembrances may be directed to Catholic Charities Northern or the PVH Foundation for Children.
