Carol Anne Nichols

d. Feb 28, 2023

On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, Carol Anne Nichols, loving wife and mother passed away at age 72 in Fort Collins, CO.

Carol was born March 19, 1950, in Glendale, CA, to Sterling and Margery Johnson as the fifth of nine children. She graduated from Palmdale High School in 1968. She became an ordained minister with the Universal Church of the Master, a non-denominational Christian church, in 1982 and studied with Rosalyn Bruyere at the Healing Light Center in California from 1983 to 1986. She attended the University of Santa Monica in 1991. She then worked as an office manager in chiropractic offices, provided counseling services, officiated weddings and memorials, did home health care, and volunteered for hospice.

Carol enjoyed being a homemaker and filled her home with sentimental treasures. She baked her grandmother Beda's Swedish Bread every Christmas and distributed as many as 90 loaves broadly to friends and family and even strangers. She was proud of the bounty of vegetables from her garden and enjoyed cooking. She would share her recipes saying, "You have to try this, it's to LIVE for!"

On April 19, 1987, she married Kenneth Nichols. They met at Unity Church of Boulder and were friends for many years before marrying. She even attended the birth of his daughter Hannah. Carol subsequently moved back to California. Several years passed, and Ken asked her out when he was visiting Los Angeles on a business trip. One thing led to another, and they fell in love, settling in Loveland, CO. They shared a passion for spiritual growth and led Attitudinal Healing workshops in their home and published an inspirational newsletter. They also both loved to dance and could be frequently found rocking the night away at Rock & Rails in Niwot, shaking their booties at a Hazel Miller concert, or kicking up their heels at Band on the Bricks in Boulder.

Carol was happiest when she was sitting at "her beach" in Montecito, California, a section of beach that was quiet and secluded. While she spent most of her adult life in Colorado, she always felt called back to her "Mother Ocean", returning many times over the years to visit and do counseling with people she met there as part of her ministry.

People who met Carol described her as sparkling and kind. Her grandchildren and great grandchild adored her. She was always attentive to their needs and made them feel special, never missing a significant event. She was always there for people in need to lend a hand, cook a meal, and provide words of encouragement and comfort.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother Margery, her father Sterling, her brother Dennis and her sister Miriah. Carol is survived by her husband Ken; her sisters Susan and Ingrid; brothers Ron, Steven, David and Bob; her children Angela and Brandon Bowman; her stepdaughter Hannah Behrens; her grandchildren Julia and Lily; her great granddaughter Claire; and stepgrandchildren Eva, Brian, and Shan Hathaway and their children. She was godmother to Miles and Kevin Fee.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Unity Church, 2855 Folsom St., Boulder, CO, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Attitudinal Healing International.
