Carol Anne Petrone passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2021. She was surrounded by family and loved ones who she impacted during her life. It is their hope that these few words can capture some of the compassion, spirit, humor, and joy that made Carol so special to so many.
Carol was born on July 28, 1950 to Gasparo and Josephine Corniola in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated Saint Edmund High School in 1967. She married Dennis Christopher Petrone in August of 1969 and together they had four children.
During the '80s Carol lived in Eltingville, Staten Island on Wilson Avenue where she raised her family. She loved being a Mom. The '80s on Staten Island was a magical decade for all who experienced it. Big Sunday Italian dinners, attending Sunday Mass at St. Clare's Church, apple picking, carving pumpkins, and summers spent on the Jersey Shore. Thursday mornings she played on a bowling league at Bowling on the Green in New Dorp. Carol was always the cool Mom driving around in her 1984 Cadillac Seville listening to Billy Joel, Lionel Richie, and Whitney Houston while wearing big sunglasses picking her children up from soccer games and Troop 41 Boy Scout meetings.
In the '90s Carol moved to Port Richey, Florida where she met and married Mike Holt. There they enjoyed the Florida sunshine, the beach, music concerts, and their pool. During this time Carol also reconnected with her older sister Joanne Grassi. Joanne and Carol remained close and spoke practically every day. Carol also spent time with her first grandchild Blake teaching them how to swim and lots of time splashing around in the pool. Carol loved feeding the ducks, turtles, and even the occasional alligator that would swim up to the lake front where she lived.
In 2011 Carol and Mike moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Here they had many adventures attending outdoor music concerts, local festivals, biking, driving up to Estes Park in the Rocky Mountains, and exploring Colorado. Here Carol also known as Nana to her grandchildren spent lots of time coming up with new craft ideas which they could create together, baking cookies, and doing all the things grandkids love to do with their Nanas.
It was here in Fort Collins that the girl from Brooklyn discovered a love and passion for horses. Over the last several years Carol visited and cared for all the horses that lived right next to her home. Carol was there when two of these horses were born, Luna and Star. Carol watched Star being born and helped her dear friend Debbie raise him. She did not shy away from strapping on her boots and mucking horse stalls.
Carol loved her family and her family loved her. She shared her life and love with her husband Mike, her daughter Jeanne, son-in-law Mike, son Peter, son's partner Lee, son Anthony, daughter-in-law Kama, son Dennis, son-in-law Alex, stepson Michael, stepdaughter Stephanie, grandchildren Blake, Tula, Theo, Teak, step grandson Jacob, and her beloved cat Jasper.
Due to the pandemic the family is planning a small memorial service later this year.
