With family by her side, Charlotte Elizabeth Howard passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Columbine West Care Center in Fort Collins. Charlotte was born July 30, 1918 to Horace and Eva (Holman) Heitmeyer in Concordia, Mo. Charlotte had wonderful memories of growing up in Concordia along with her two sisters, Neva Ruth and Wilma. She attended schools in Concordia until the family moved to Warrensburg, Mo because of hard times related to the depression. Charlotte graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1936. With a scholarship that she received, Charlotte then attended a business school in Kansas City, Mo. She utilized her excellent book keeping skills in many ways the rest of her life. On 13 October 1937, Charlotte was married to Ares W. Moreland in Medford, Mo. They resided for a number of years in Cole Camp, Mo and were blessed with two children, Joyce and Robert (Bob). In 1955, Charlotte married James E. Howard in Warrensburg, Mo. Later that year, they moved to Canon City, Colo. where Charlotte worked with her husband in their new business, the Canon City Western Auto Store. She was good with numbers and "kept the books" at the store. After the business was sold in 1969, Charlotte was an employee of the First National Bank of Florence for eight years, where she used her prior experience of keeping accurate records at the bank. Charlotte was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Canon City and was a volunteer worker for Loaves and Fishes and the Meals on Wheels Program. She was a member of the Fremont County Women's Bowling Association and a charter member of the Fremont County Women's Bowling "600" Club and the Colorado State Bowling Association "600" Club. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and was a member of two Canon City Bridge Clubs. In 1997, Charlotte and Jim moved from Canon City to Ft Collins to be closer to their daughter, Joyce. Jim passed away March 14, 2000. Charlotte was the last surviving member of her family. Charlotte was a gracious and generous lady with a beautiful smile and good sense of humor. Charlotte's great joy in life was her family. Her children: a daughter, Joyce (Larry) Weber and a son Robert (Bob) Moreland, who preceded her in death, her grandchildren: Bob Moreland (Marla) of Bolivar, Mo., Robin (Jeff) Campbell of Bates City, Mo. Mark Weber and Kristine (Ross) Reinking of Ft Collins, Colo. , and her great grandchildren: Zak Anstine, Molly Campbell, Bobi Jo Moreland, Blake Weber, and Adyson and Aydin Reinking. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date in Missouri. Family requests that any memorial donations be made to the charity of their choice.
