Cheryl Evans

Cheryl Evans was a brilliant and creative woman who excelled in academics, art, design, and entrepreneurial pursuits. An accomplished seamstress, she fostered a haven for artists exploring textiles as a means of self-expression at the Black Sheep Wool Shop. She loved gardening, reading, exploring her adopted home of Colorado, spending time with friends and family, and being with her dogs to watch the sun set over Warren lake. A devoted and loving spouse, mother, and friend, she touched the lives of many. Originally from California, Cheryl was a proud graduate of Brigham Young University and a long-time resident of Fort Collins. She was the first person in her family to attend university, a milestone that reflected her determination and set an example for generations to follow. She dedicated her life to serving others—through teaching, volunteering in her church, her professional work, and the care she gave to her family and community. She held a master’s degree in education, started multiple businesses, and was always eager to help others grow and succeed. After a years-long and courageous battle with cancer, Cheryl passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. In her final days, she expressed a heartfelt wish: that any time, money, or effort given in her honor be directed toward causes that create lasting, positive change. She believed deeply in organizations that empower individuals and foster hope for the future, including cancer research foundations and educational charities such as the Perpetual Education Fund. She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew “Drew” Evans; her mother, Elverta Ann (Spencer) Koenig; her brother, David W. Koenig; and her brother-in-law, Larry Hayes.
