Cheryl Mae Herzig, age 66 of Fort Collins, CO died October 3rd, 2011 at her home after several years of living with cancer. A memorial service and life celebration will be held 1:30pm Saturday, October 10, 2011 at Everyday Joe's Coffee House at 144 South Mason Street Fort Collins. Cheryl was born April 9, 1945 in Salinas, CA to Lorraine and Earl McClune. She grew up in Edgewater, CO, attended Jefferson High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at University of Colorado at Boulder where she majored in French. Shortly after graduating in 1967 she married Michael R. Herzig and moved to Los Angeles, CA to earn an elementary education credential and teach for a year before embarking on motherhood. For 19 years she stayed home to raise four daughters before returning to teaching at Bauder Elementary School in Fort Collins until she retired at the age of 62. Cheryl felt her greatest passion and achievement was raising her four daughters, Heidi, Jenny, Katie and Annie. She loved movies, books, traveling, craft making, hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park and being a grandmother. She was a fantastic cook, but loved eating out even more. She spent untold hours volunteering at her kids' activities. She took many classes working to be the best parent, teacher and person she could be. Cheryl was deeply spiritual, always considerate, open-minded and open-hearted to those she met and loved. She is survived by her husband Mike Herzig, her daughters Heidi Dilka (and husband Dane), Jenny Herzig, Katie Herzig and Annie Herzig, her brother, Mickey McClune, and her grandkids, Konnor and Grace Dilka.
