Christine Tabone Hagerty

Christine Tabone Hagerty, 74 of Johnstown, CO, formerly of Fort Collins, died March 9, 2023 at Medical Center of the Rockies. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on March 13, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Collins. Rev. Simon Kalonga officiated, and her cremated remains were buried at Grandview Cemetery.

Christine Tabone was born in Galesburg, Illinois to Anthony John and Martha Louise (Ross) Tabone. She was the 2nd of 4 children. She grew up in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1966. After graduating she moved to Minnesota, then to Chicago where she started working in the airline industry assisting with reservations.

Chris married Lloyd O'Brien when they were quite young and soon after, the children, Ken and Karen were born. Their marriage ended not long after.

She had a significant career in the airline industry and she also worked in the hotel industry; usually in system engineering, developing, and operating computer reservation systems. She and her children moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she worked for American Airlines and then to Memphis Tennessee where she worked for Holiday Inn. Her capabilities with the new technology, the computer, was where she began to flourish. They later moved to St. Paul, MN and then finally to the Denver area of Colorado in 1983 where she worked for United Airlines and Galileo International. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix and then her Master's degree from the University of Denver. She moved to Fort Collins in 2001.

Chris volunteered for the Red Cross helping during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. She was also a volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocate "CASA". As well as serving as Scout Master for Ken's Boy Scout Troup and was coach for Karen's, and later her granddaughter's Soccer Teams. During the 911 terrorist attacks, Chris was instrumental in getting the aircrafts safely on the ground. She also worked on creating the "no fly" list in those frightening times.

In Fort Collins, Chris volunteered extensively at St. Joseph Catholic Parish where she would bring Holy Communion to shut ins and those in the hospital. She was the wedding coordinator for several years at St. Joseph's. She volunteered for over 2000 hours at Poudre Valley Hospital. For years, Chris organized the after-funeral dinners at St. Joseph's where she provided her special hospitality of love and uniquely styled meals. She also made Baptismal garments for newborn babies.

Chris met and married the love of her life, Chris Hagerty at St. Joe's. Together they traveled to Europe, South America, the Panama Canal, Alaska, Canada and throughout the US. They had three trips planned in 2023, but failing health prevented those excursions.

Chris is survived by her husband, Chris; son, Ken O'Brien of Arlington, VA; daughter, Karen Luttrell of Lyons, CO; siblings, Larry Tabone (and April) of Houston, TX, Linda Mescher (and Ken) of Coldwater, OH, Keith Tabone (and Becky) of Indian Land, SC; and six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katie, Samantha, Monica, Michael, and Maggie.
