H. Clay Hogan, Jr., age 89 of Loveland, Colorado, died September 19, 2009; one week shy of his 90th birthday in Fort Collins. Cremation is planned and interment, with full military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery - Denver will be held on December 8, 2009 at 11:00 am, Staging Area A. A light lunch will follow at Pinehurst Country Club, 6255 West Quincy Ave. - Slightly South and East of Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Clay Hogan was born September 26, 1919 in Portage, Wisconsin to Herbert and Leone Hogan. His family owned and operated a candy shop in Osh Kosh, which he worked in as he grew up. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with degrees in Philosophy and Economics. Clay boxed welterweight while at the university. During WWII, he served in the U. S. Navy as a fighter pilot. He served in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater and by the time the war was over, received the Purple Heart and Navy Cross commendations among several others. On May 31, 1946, Clay married Patricia Jean O'Neill in Milwaukee. They moved to Denver, Colorado and later Boulder in the early 1950's. He bought Boulder Taxi Company and ran it for six years, then went into banking. He worked for many years for Aetna Life Insurance and retired in the mid 1970's and bought the Essex House Motel in Littleton. Over the years, Clay enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, tennis, golf and good friends and was a member of the Boulder Country Club for over 50 years. Clay is survived by his wife, Patty Hogan; daughter, Holly (and Mark) Trumble of Loveland; four grandchildren, Melissa Loprino, Shannon Hogan, Lynsay McLaughlin and Trevor Trumble; and six great-grandchldren, Shaylyn, Jordan, Megan, Cassidy, Caedon and Xander, with one on the way. He was preceded in death by sons, Terrence Clay and Patrick Dion Hogan. The family requests that any memorial donations please be made, in lieu of flowers, to Hearts and Horses Therapeutic Riding Center, 163 N. C.R. 29, Loveland, CO 80537
