Connie Lou States

Connie Lou States, born Connie Lou Harchelroad on September 5, 1938, peacefully finished her 84 year journey on this earth on January 13, 2023.

Connie was a third generation Fort Collins resident – her grandparents came to Fort Collins in 1897. She was born to Larry and Juanita Harchelroad and had one sister, Judy. All have preceded her in death.
Connie graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1956. She was proud to be a Lambkin and loved attending her class reunions.

Connie had a grit and toughness to her that went beyond the norm. In Connie's early years, she would break her own horses only to go on and take first place in most every event she competed in. She won many buckles and trophies through the years with the words inscribed, "All Around Champion." She was a true horsewoman. Connie loved horses and rodeo all throughout her life and she loved "horse talk" with anyone willing to listen.

Anyone who met or knew Connie knew these things about her: she was filled with laughter, she always had a smile on her face, she was mischievous, a quality she inherited from her father, she had an amazing work ethic, she loved fast engines and fast horses, and she could bake amazing desserts that she loved to share. Connie had a craft for leather work and making jewelry. She loved Indian art and was passionate about Indian culture and history.

Connie is survived by her children, Judson States of Denver, Curtis States of California, and Cayenne Kerbs of Fort Collins; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Connie is now holding those leather reins, sitting back easy in the saddle and enjoying a peaceful ride.
