Dan Dueppen

Dan Dueppen, 85 of Fort Collins, died June 16, 2011 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Monday June 20, 2011 at Blessed John XXIII University Parish. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday June 21, 2011 at John XXIII. The interment, with Military Honors provided by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard, will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday June 21, 2011 at Grandview Cemetery. Daniel Joseph Dueppen was born April 6, 1926 in Madison, WI to Jacob and Josephine Dueppen. He grew up on a farm in Dane County, WI and in his teens was a competitive ski jumper. Following high school, Dan served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Princeton. After the war, he attended Colorado A&M in Ft. Collins and studied electrical engineering and played football. On September 10, 1948, Dan married Joan Johnson in Blooming Prairie, MN. Dan's career was spent as an Electronics Sales Engineer; the first five years with Westinghouse and then 30 years with General Electric. His job took him all over the U.S. including Utah, Indiana, Iowa, and in Colorado; Denver, Arvada and Colorado Springs prior to returning to Fort Collins in 1984. A family man, Dan enjoyed fishing, camping, and hiking. He coached his children's football, junior baseball, and fast-pitch softball teams. Dan graduated from the Catholic Biblical School and was very active, especially in his church. At Blessed John XXIII University Parish he taught religious education, assisted with RCIA, served on the Pastoral Council and on the building committee. He was active in the 11140 Council of the Knights of Columbus and was past Grand Knight of the 1214 Council. Dan is survived by his loving wife Joan of 62 years; seven children (and their spouses), Michael (and Jean) Dueppen of Chino Valley, AZ, Terry (and Walt) Holmes of North Pole, AK, LeeAnn Ryals of Keizer, OR, Lisa (and Pat) Kent of Deerfield, IL, Daniel (and Karen) Dueppen of San Jose, CA, Martha (and Mark) Egan of Shiner, TX and Heidi (and Andy) Mechtenberg of Fort Collins, CO, his brother, Kenneth Dueppen of Woodland Hills, CA, 25 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
