Darwin Stengaard of Fort Collins passed away on 3/11/2016. He was 69 years old. After long battles with COPD and Lung Cancer, Darwin passed away peacefully on his own terms, remaining active till the end.
Darwin was born in Carroll, Iowa to Naomi (Scott) and Earl Stengaard. He moved to Colorado when he was 4 years old.
He received his education in Loveland. As a child, he was active in FFA and AG. He received his diploma as a GED through the Military and is recognized with the Loveland class of 1965. Dar served as a Tank Crewman in the United States Marines from 1964-1968. For his service in Vietnam and on a Mediterranean Cruise, he received numerous Medals and Honors and was Honorably discharged as a Sergeant E-5.
Following his Military service, he began working in the Mobile Home Industry progressing through service, sales, and management. While living in Fort Morgan for 10 years he was owner in Action Yamaha selling recreational vehicles. Darwin found his ultimate career as a MAC Tool Distributor for the Fort Collins area for 22 years, retiring in 2010. He excelled throughout his career receiving multiple awards for his accomplishments.
Darwin married Colleen (Heimbigner) in August of 1970. They were happily married for over 45 years. Colleen and Darwin were business partners and loved to spend time together playing with their recreational vehicles. They were very active in outdoor activities, specifically the Larimer County (Mountaineers) 4-Wheel Drive Club.
He was preceded in death by his Parents and Grandparents. Darwin is survived by his wife, Colleen. His two brothers, Richard (Wyvonna) Stengaard, Roger Stengaard. In-laws; Marie (Ron) Hein, Janet (Jim) Winkler, Patricia (Calvin) Wertz. Nieces and Nephews; Scott (Lisa and Gabriel) Stengaard, Steph Stengaard, Jessica Aguayo, Rob (Debbie and Cody) Hein, Jeff (Lisa, Michaela and Micah) Hein, Zachary Wertz, Shiloh Wertz.
A Celebration of Life will be March 18th 2:00-6:00 pm at 221 East County Road 66, Fort Collins (Intersection of County Road 15 and 66). In lieu of Flowers the family requests donations made to:
