David L. Lee

d. Mar 7, 2025

David L. Lee, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7th, at the age of 87. He will be deeply missed for his humor, kindness, and gift for embellished storytelling.

Born and raised on a farm in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, David took great pride in his horse, "Queen," which he purchased at the age of 11 using earnings from his Times newspaper carrier route.

In November 1958, after a whirlwind courtship, David married Barbara in at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Minnesota. The couple later moved and built their home in the beautiful foothills of Lyons, Colorado, where they resided for 41 years. In 2013, they relocated to Windsor, Colorado, to be closer to family.

David dedicated 35 years of service as an air traffic controller, first in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and then at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) headquarters in Longmont, Colorado. Prior to his career with the FAA, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, completing assignments in Korea, France, and Morocco before being honorably discharged.

David is survived by his son, Stephen Lee (Lyze Lee) of Roswell, New Mexico; and two daughters, Barbara Ward (John Ward) of Windsor, Colorado, and Jennifer Lee (Benjamin Rubloff) of Berlin, Germany. David adored his five grandchildren: Joshua, Ryan, Allison and Katelyn Ward, and Juno Rubloff. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara.

David's ashes will be laid to rest alongside Barbara's in the columbarium at Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 7755 Greenstone Trail, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
