With great sadness, we share of the death of David Philip Wilgers on Tue, November 19th, 2024. David was born December 12, 1960 in Manhattan, KS to Philip & Joyce Wilgers. He and his family also lived in Hays, KS, Kansas City, and St. Louis, MO, before moving to Fort Collins in the summer of 1972. He attended O'Dea Elementary, Lesher Junior High and graduated from Fort Collins High School in May 1979. He also did 4 years of college work at Fort Hays State University and Colorado State University, majoring in Business and Computer Sciences, although his earlier life passion was always in Astronomy.
David was very responsible, so much so that his parents allowed him to drive he and his siblings to Hays, KS, when he was still in high school to spend time with their grandparents, and they often recall the adventures they shared on that trip. He was a patient teacher of algebra to his siblings.
David was a loyal and dedicated newspaper carrier for the Fort Collins Coloradoan since age 21, never missing a day to take care of his route. He was very appreciated for his helpful work with maintenance of several apartment and housing complexes over the years. Pool maintenance and the hours for the paper route made his summers busy.
David had quite an affection for great older movies, music of many genres, but especially classical and jazz, and he read voraciously. He had an amazing collection of all of his favorites, and loved to share about the newest album he discovered or the great actors. Newer movies couldn't compare to the classics, in his thinking. His close friend, Ward, and he would get together almost every Friday night for the past 30 years to enjoy a movie or music.
He loved family gatherings and always found the best funny birthday cards for us. He loved his sisters' treats they would bake, especially chocolate desserts.
David was preceded in death by his father, Phil Wilgers and his grandparents, Bill & Marguerite Wilgers and Louis & Clara Bieker. His survivors include his mother, Joyce Wilgers, Fort Collins; brother, Chris (Tammy) Wilgers, Fort Collins; sister, Amy (Eric) Penniman, Knoxville, TN; sister, Laurie (Kent) Bowen, Wellington and eight nieces and nephews that adored him with his very kind and gentle nature and eleven great nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his uncles and aunts Carr (Charlie) Bieker, Livermore; Mary Lee (Nick) Warner, Olathe, KS; and Linda (Jim) Collins, Scott City, KS; and cousins who remember of fun times growing up and later his vast knowledge of history and interest in music, movies and books.
A Private Family Service will be held for the inurnment of his ashes in early December. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of David to
