Donald Edward Myers passed away on December 1, 2025.
Donnie was a big man with a big heart. He was kind and gentle. Be it friends, family or people he met through work or sports, Donnie endeared himself to those who knew him.
He and Carolyn were together fifty years (forty three of them married). To the very end, his main concern was to make sure Carolyn was happy and provided for. Their son, Matthew, has been their pride and joy. Donnie and Carolyn love visiting him and his wonderful wife, Kaitlin, and have embraced the joy of being grandparents to their two beautiful grandsons. Donnie is survived by his brother Jon, brother-in-law Mark and many sweet nephews and nieces. When discussing family, Donnie's great love and devotion for all the dogs that have been loyal family members throughout the years must be remembered, Jesse being the latest.
Donnie's greatest passion was reading progressive literature. With a fervor, he strove to enlighten himself on such matters as social justice, human rights, environmentalism and corporate and government overreach. This unquenchable thirst for information not provided by mainstream or rightwing media found him always, always reading books on these subjects and staying hyperconnected to CommonDreams.org for current events. He strove to be as educated as possible in these matters.
Donnie excelled at many sports from an early age to his old age, playing baseball, golf, softball and pickleball among others, always at an exceptional level. This love carried through to spectator sports where he was an avid baseball (Rockies), football (Broncos) and college basketball (UCONN) fanatic.
His early interest in sports led to his first career path. Donnie was a caddy and then a greenskeeper at Birchwood country club near his hometown of Norwalk, CT. That led him to attain a degree in Agronomy at the University of Connecticut where he worked his way through college.
In December of 1978 he and Carolyn moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Donnie was hired as a hod carrier soon to master the art of being a brick layer. In fact he helped build the Vietnam Memorial Bridge on the CSU campus. He then started a business building environmentally friendly Finnish style masonry heaters, one of many examples of Donnie quietly putting his progressive philosophy into a real world practice.
After earning a masters degree in construction management at CSU, Donnie had a long, successful career as a commercial estimator. Upon retirement, Donnie ventured into a wood-fired pizza food truck business that was followed by a lawn mowing service that continues to this day.
Donnie found many ways to find joy in life. He was a great gardener and an avid cook. He loved staying in nice hotels and amusing others with his dry humor. He and Carolyn are famous for throwing huge parties for various occasions throughout the year.
He was always welcoming and gracious as he greeted you with a twinkle in his eye.
