Doris Hett Drummond

Doris Hett Drummond, age 89, of Fort Collins, Colorado, died February 21, 2022.

Doris was born in 1932 in Ely, Nevada to parents Paul and Angenietha (Neta) Hett. She grew up in Ely, where she was a member of the marching band and active in many clubs and groups in school. After graduating, Doris attended the University of Utah and earned a Bachelor's in Art and her teaching certification. She left shortly after for Germany where she was part of the USO for a period of time.

Upon her return, Doris settled in San Diego, where she taught elementary art. She married and raised two sons in Southlake, Texas. In 1977, the family relocated to Evergreen, Colorado. Doris maintained a connection with Nevada, where she returned and taught elementary art in Las Vegas until her retirement. In recent years, Doris moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to be near family.

Throughout her life, Doris had a love for exploration and art. In addition to her time spent in Germany, she traveled to Japan and Hong Kong in the 1950's, as well as Mexico, the Caribbean, and Peru in the 1960's and 1970's. After retirement, she took a bike tour of Austria, went on an art mural tour of Scotland, and visited China.

In addition, Doris was an avid artist, and her oil paintings reflected both her travels and her passion for the Old West. She felt a strong connection to the pioneer spirit of the West, especially the strong women who braved the western frontier life. Doris herself had a strong and outgoing personality, and connected with people wherever she went, including at Rigden Farms in Fort Collins.

Doris is survived by her two sons, Matt Drummond (Denise) and Mark Drummond (Patty Cleary); and granddaughters, Eleanor and Jennifer Drummond.
