Dorothy Lorraine Dugger, 71, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014 at Poudre Valley Hospital.
She was born April 17, 1943 in Fort Collins to J. Finley Nelson and Joyce (Rohrbacker) Nelson. She grew up in the Fort Collins area and graduated from Poudre High School in 1965.
She was a gifted seamstress, and loved doing crafts especially making hot air balloons out of plastic canvas. She also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and collecting special gifts for family and friends. But above all she loved her family and the people close to her who became like family.
She married Gerald Maxwell in 1966. They had three children together, Judee, Crystal and Scott. After they divorced, she moved to Greeley where she married Wayne Dugger in 1983. After his death in 1994 she moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, but for the rest of her life maintained a special relationship with her step granddaughter, Sandra Rogers.
In 2011, she moved back to Fort Collins to be closer to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other extended family. She loved having family come visit her, but she was also just as happy to have a long talk on the phone with those who live far away.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Finley and Joyce Nelson, and sister, Bonnie Drum.
She is survived by her children, Judee Nelson and Scott Maxwell of Fort Collins, and Crystal Toenjes, of Norridge, Illinois; her brothers Ross Nelson of Northglenn and Kent Nelson of Decorah, Iowa; seven grandchildren Shawna Geisler, Krisantha Haynes, Josh Nelson, Heather and Nicole Tippett all of Fort Collins; Maxwell and Maia Toenjes of Norridge, Illinois, and seven great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her aunts Jackie Nelson of LaPorte, Wanda Nelson of Longview, Washington, and Jeanne Rohrbacker of West Linn, Oregon, and an uncle, Bert Rohrbacker of Wellington, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
