Edna Schaefer

d. May 17, 2024

Edna June (Minch) Schaefer, born in Fort Collins, and resident of Colorado her entire life, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 17, 2024 at the age of 97.

Edna was born July 13, 1926 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Peter and Marie Minch. After graduating from Fort Collins High School in 1944, she began working as a secretary for Seder & Son Plastic Molding. From 1949 through 1959 Edna worked as a stenographer for the State of Colorado's Department of Employment Services. She also assisted her husband with the clerical duties generated by his electric motor business. Between 1959 and 1982 she worked as a secretary at Colorado State University, first in the English Department for ten years and later as a staff assistant to the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. After approximately 30 years working for the State of Colorado, she retired in 1982.

In February 1947 she married Alvin A. Schaefer and they were blessed with two daughters, Deborah (Schaefer) Berard of Roseville, California and Nanette (Schaefer) Quarnberg of Westminster, Colorado. Just prior to Alvin's passing in 2009, Edna and Alvin celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Edna was an accomplished cook and crafter. She dabbled in candle making, china painting, and was a special assistant to the editors, and a contributor to the History of Larimer County Colorado, Volume II, published in 1987. As a young child she enjoyed tap dancing and acrobatics. Many friends and relatives will always remember the delicious toffee she made at Christmas.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Schaefer, her sisters Genevieve (Minch) Moedy, Gladys (Schwindt) Renz, her brother, Virgil Minch and her parents Peter and Marie Minch. She is survived by her daughters Deborah Berard (Gary), Nanette Quarnberg (Rick), her grandsons, Lee Wolfe (Angie) of Burns, WY and Alex Quarnberg (Kate) of Denver, CO; two great grandsons Roady and Wyatt Wolfe of Nebraska, her sister Arlene King of Fort Collins, CO, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

On May 30, 2024, at 12 p.m. a Memorial graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery, 1900 West Mountain Avenue in Fort Collins, Colorado. A reception will follow the service at a location to be announced later. In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice in memory of Edna J. Schaefer.
