Elmer Johannsen

Apr 16, 1930 — Mar 2, 2010

Elmer Johannsen, age 79 of Ft. Collins, died March 2, 2010 at Poudre Valley Hospital after a long illness. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday at Highland Cemetery in Wellington. Elmer John Johannsen was born April 16, 1930 in Worthington, Minnesota to Theodore and Mary Johannsen. His family moved during the great depression to Paullina, Iowa where they farmed. He served in the U. S. Air Force as a Radar Tech on a B-36 Bomber during the Korean War. On July 3, 1955 he married Marlene Schultz in Sanborn, Iowa and together they have four children. In 1972 (March 2 as a matter of fact) Elmer moved his family from their diversified farm in Iowa to Wellington where he specialized only in dairy farming. He retired from the family business, Marjo-Lane Dairy in 2001. In addition to his family, one of his greatest accomplishments was building his dream home in the early 1990's, "Rose Cottage" an English Tudor, in memory and in honor of his British mother. Elmer is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marlene; four children, Lane (and wife, Tonya) of Wellington, Tamara (and husband, Maurice Keitt) of Cheyenne, Tara (and husband, Darwin Huwe) of Menahga, Minn. and Joni (and husband, Joe Trotter) of Ft. Collins; his sister, Alice Pack of Spencer, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Sprouse and his twin sister, Edna Stief; and his brother, Donald Johannsen. His family requests that any memorial donations please be made to the Salvation Army.
