Emma Asbury

Mar 23, 1930 — Oct 2, 2011

Emma Jean Asbury, age 81 of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly of Hopewell, Virginia died peacefully on October 2, 2011 at her home while listening to mass on the television. Emma Jean Adkins was born March 23, 1930 in Cinco, West Virginia to Andrew and Una Adkins. She grew up there and married Robert Lee Asbury on September 10, 1947 after a (required by her father) six month courtship/engagement. Bob's career in the Air Force had them traveling and living all over the world before they settled in Hopewell (Prince George County). Jean was a longtime and active member of Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Wakefield and worked for over twenty years as the Executive Director of the Hopewell and Prince George Chapter of the American Red Cross. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed painting, yard work and housework and keeping her home clean and comfortable. Jean is survived by her husband, Bob; their daughter, Yolanda (and husband, Leroy) Cruz of Fort Collins; her sister, Rosemary (and Billy) Jarrett of Waynesboro, VA; two grandchildren Dr. Brian Cruz of Sudbury, Mass. and Kim Cruz of Surprise, AZ; and three great-grandchildren, Brendon, Dylan and Justin. Sadly, she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Lee Asbury, II and Michael Irving Asbury as well as her two brothers, Aldon and Jackie Adkins. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 10th at Merchant Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George.
