Eric Sacher (80) Founder of Serendipity Systems, Inc. died 30 January 2020.
As a Russian refugee from Shanghai during WW II, Eric settled in Seattle with his family. He became a U.S. citizen as a teen and with his love of aviation joined the Air National Guard. Eric was a self-taught computer engineer who got his start fixing cash registers for NCR. He had a long career with NCR and was awarded 3 patents (US4194113A, US4176780A, US4161276A) for printed circuit board fault detection and isolation.
Eric moved from southern California to Phoenix to work in management and marketing for Cirrus Computers and Genrad Designs. This led to the inception of his own business Serendipity Systems, Inc. based in Sedona, AZ. For over 20 years, the company provided the Automatic Test Equipment and electronics manufacturing community with test products and engineering services. During this time Eric served on standards committees and presented technical papers at several ATE conferences.
In his spare time he loved to ski, fly model airplanes, operate ham radio, and offer technical assistance to others. Eric and his wife spent their final years in Steamboat Springs, CO. Eric spent his last year at a retirement home in Fort Collins, CO.
Eric's wife, Jane Ann (Wiegert) Sacher - his high school sweetheart - preceded him in death. Eric and Jane are greatly missed by their children, Mark Eric Sacher of Flagstaff, AZ; daughters Suzanne Sacher (Mark) Longhurst of Temecula, CA; and Carrie Sacher (Tyler) Gibbs of Steamboat Springs, CO; six grandchildren, Noah and Aidan Gibbs, Joshua Blaise, Kalena, J.D. and Aaron Longhurst. Eric is survived by his half-sister Alice Swartzman (Bill) Englander of Pacific Grove, CA; half-brother Dan (Arlene) Swartzman of Chicago, IL.
Eric will be remembered for his gentle quiet nature, great smile, sense of humor, adventurous spirit and fondness for music. His lifework as a computer engineer and programmer gave him the most pleasure; he truly loved his work. You could always find him happy at his computer, solving a new problem.
Eric's April memorial was postponed, new date TBD; daughter Carrie can be contacted at gibbs.carrie65@gmail.com . Eric's ashes will be buried alongside Jane's this summer at Strandvik Lutheran cemetery in Lake Park, MN near ancestors.
