Ferne met and married her husband, John while attending Penn State University. While living in Vermont, Maine, Montana, and Wyoming, Ferne enjoyed camping, hiking, and canoeing with her family, and was a life-long lover of animals. After settling in Fort Collins, Ferne established herself as a talented typographer and graphic designer. She loved working with her clients and the diverse projects they presented. She was known for her warm heart, compassion, and deep empathy. A lover of great Rock & Roll, Ferne could often be seen cruising through Fort Collins singing along to her favorite tunes from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Pearl Jam.
She is survived by her husband John, her brother Mark Winninghoff of Easton, ME, three adult children, Jessica Barnett of San Francisco, Benjamin Barnett of Centennial, and Katherine Barnett of Los Angeles; one nephew, Chris Winninghoff of Danvers, MA, two grandsons, Oliver and Elliott Barnett of Centennial, and one granddaughter, Michaela Trainer, of Ventura, CA.
Ferne was preceded in death by her parents and her step father, Jack Winninghoff. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made to the Dana Farber Institute, and please turn up your favorite Led Zeppelin song and try to hit the high notes. Mom will be singing along with you.
