Frank Vero, 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Pathways of Northern Colorado Hospice, on Tuesday, November 14th.
Born on January 9, 1934, to Ernesto Vero and Anna (Leccese) Vero, he grew up in Woodhaven, New York in Queens. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1952, with an Industrial Design Major, and joined the Army in 1953 through 1955, serving at Fort Drum, near Watertown, New York and Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was honorably discharged in 1961.
He received his Associate Degree in Advertising Art from the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York around 1957-1958. With his degree, he worked his way up to Art Director and worked at several advertising agencies in Manhattan's Madison Avenue district including J. Walter Thompson, BBDO, SSC&B, Rumrill-Hoyt, and others, working on accounts such as Kodak, Pan Am, RCA, and many other well-known brands.
He met his wife, Valerie, while working at J. Walter Thompson, and they married in April 1960. They raised three boys while they lived in New York in towns such as Bay Shore, Central Islip, and Mahopac. After the boys were done with school they moved to Fort Collins in 1988.
In Colorado, Frank worked at Forney Industries in Fort Collins as Art Director. He and Val also started their own business, 'Specially Colorado, where he hand-made his own Christmas cards and other various stationary items inspired by the beauty of Colorado. They traveled the state and surrounding western states extensively. They brought their crafts to craft shows throughout the state for quite some time, enjoying the camaraderie and friendship of other vendors and continued their exploration of our wonderful state.
Frank enjoyed photography, hiking and driving to various locations to take that special shot that he transformed into beautiful photos and paintings. He loved to read and root for various Colorado sports teams such as the Broncos and Rockies. He loved history, especially World War II. He was a devout Catholic and was a Eucharistic Minister back in Mahopac and in Fort Collins. Most important of all, when Valerie struggled with various health issues, he devoted all of his time in helping her and making her quality of life as excellent as possible.
Frank is survived by his three sons: Paul (Patricia), Tim (Karen) and Christopher; seven grandchildren: Dylan and Hayley (Paul and Patricia), Timothy, Steven, and Jennifer (Tim and Karen), Willow and TJ (Christopher); two great-grandchildren: Jaiden (Timothy), and Odin (Jennifer); and his cat, Sylvester.
The immediate family will attend his viewing at Goes Funeral Care and Crematory, November 15th. His Memorial Mass will be held at St. John's XXIII Catholic Church on November 17th, at 2:00pm. To watch Frank's recorded service, please follow the link provided:
