Frederick "Fred" Daniel Rodic

d. Jul 4, 2025

Fred was the cherished first child of Van & Stella Rodic who raised him in Lakewood, Ohio. An only child for six years, he grew up in the company of adults & quickly evidenced a genius IQ. He had an amazing vocabulary & an encyclopedic memory-- especially for all things cars, top 100 songs, & academics—particularly math & science. He excelled in school & was always at the top of his class. His scholastic excellence set the bar high for his 3 younger sisters (Ginger, Rosie & Lucy) who followed after him over the next 13 years & were motivated to maintain the high Fred Rodic standard in school! Fred willingly coached & helped Ginger, Rosie & Lucy with their homework over the years—each still has amazing math & science textbook-quality teaching aids created by Fred. He was a generous, knowledgeable tutor & brother.

Fred was accepted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology & ultimately chose to attend Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics with a minor in statistics. Graduate study in mathematics followed at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Fred applied his skills to the rapidly growing computer industry & worked in programming, systems development, performance analysis & capacity planning. He worked for a variety of major companies including United Airlines, Union Oil, Security Pacific National Bank, Citicorp, Northrup & Nestle Foods. His career involved travel & opportunities to live in Chicago, San Diego, and Burbank, California.

Throughout his life Fred reveled in his love of his pet cats, collection of fine writing instruments, music, books & computers & audiophile equipment. He especially loved his home base & friends in Burbank & while there had a special affinity for his faith family at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church.

At age 53 Fred experienced a disabling injury with long-term effects which pushed him into early retirement & years later into the need for assisted living. Family pulled together & helped Fred during these years as caregiving needs increased—including parents Van & Stella, Ginger & husband Del in Arroyo Grande, CA, & Rosie & husband Bob in Stockton, CA, and Fort Collins, CO.

Fred's disability dramatically changed his life & trajectory for years. He left us at age 80 on the Fourth of July surrounded by family & caregivers—how providential that his freedom from suffering & limitation should come on Independence Day! His family rejoices that he is now free & that we will see him again someday!

We are especially grateful for the love & support over time provided by Mel & Danielle Serban of Meadow Creek Villa in Stockton, CA and Todd Robbins & staff of Terry Lake Assisted Living in Fort Collins. Special thanks also to the staff at Lemay Health & Rehab & Pathways Hospice. Fred & all our family are also eternally grateful for the Sacramental Ministry support generously provided by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

Fred's services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 5450 S. Lemay Fort Collins, CO on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Rosary at 10a.m. Funeral Mass at 10:30a.m. Interment to follow at 1p.m. at Grandview Cemetery.
