Fryne was born on April 2, 1926 in Gering, Nebraska to Fred and Eva (McKinely) Gross. She grew up in Gering with her siblings, Sue, Doug, Treva, Jo Ellen and Gary. She graduated from Melbeta High School where she was prom queen at the May Fete. Fyrne was best friends with Mildred Fitz and Virginia Tanner. Fryne married Clyde Colen Thompson on October 2, 1947.
Fyrne is survived by her children, Michael L. Thompson, Roger L. Thompson and Penny Sue Thompson-Varnell; her grandchildren, Christopher, Marcus, Megan, Brooke, and Devon; her great grandchildren, Adyson, Landon, Jase, Elliot, Michelle and Megan; and siblings, Doug Gross, Treva Templar, Jo Ellen Rizor and Gary Gross. She is predeceased by her husband Clyde and sister Sue.
Fyrne was best known for helping others and being more concerned about their welfare. Even at the end of her life, she would open the conversation with "Are you okay?" An appropriate tribute to Fyrne would be to check in with your family, friends and neighbors a bit more; toss an extra can in the food bank when they come by or just think about her with a smile.
