Gary Herbert Ackerman, 80, passed away peacefully December 25, 2022, in his hometown of Fort Collins, CO. The cause of death was RSV, pneumonia, and complications from a severe ulcer.
Gary was born in Davenport, IA, to Herbert and Arva Mae (Ruser) Ackerman. He attended the University of Iowa where he earned a Pharmacy degree and played the baritone in the university marching band.
Gary owned and operated independent drug stores in Atkinson, IL, and Cambridge, IL.
Gary moved to Colorado at the age of 55 where he enthusiastically embraced the outdoors by organizing ski club outings, hiking, camping, biking, and golfing. He coordinated a local breakfast club of friends every Tuesday morning. Gary regularly attended Colorado State Rams sporting events.
He is survived by his son, Chad Ackerman, Urbana, IL, as well as his brothers Kent (Vicki) Ackerman, East Moline, IL, and Jim (Jeanie) Ackerman, Three Rivers, MI.
Cremation took place on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Goes Funeral Care, Fort Collins, CO. Gary's ashes were scattered in the Rocky Mountains in May 2023.
