Gary A. Rogers

d. Dec 21, 2022

Gary Alan Rogers, age 61, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed from this life on December 21, 2022 surrounded by friends and family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born March 23, 1961 in Grand Junction, Colorado to parents Jesse "Darrell" and Myrna Rogers. He grew up in Denver and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. He briefly attended the University of Northern Colorado, but completed his bachelor's in business administration at Fort Hays State University in Kansas where he also enjoyed playing for the university's baseball team.

Gary's work in the non-profit world began in Roswell, New Mexico and continued in Austin, Texas before he returned home to Colorado. While working at the March of Dimes Gary was persuaded to go on a blind date where he met the love of his life, Kathy Hueston. The two were later married on September 24, 1994 in Denver and shortly thereafter settled down in Northern Colorado.

Gary's mission in life was to make lives better - to make the world a better place. Day-to-day his antics and jokes weren't limited to just friends and family - they were often aimed at anybody within close proximity, much to everyone's delight. When not coaxing smiles out of strangers, Gary was passionate about entrepreneurship, coaching peers and mentorship for a wide range of people; a natural and driven leader with an abundance of wisdom. He was tireless in his efforts to foster a caring and loving environment with community and family at its core.

Gary's passion for helping people, led him to work for organizations such as the, The Heart Association, American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes and Otter Cares, where he ran the entrepreneurship program that landed him an invite to the White House. While working in real estate, Gary was most proud of creating a coaching program for Keller Williams that was aimed at coaching aspiring agents.

The Colorado mountains had a special place in Gary's heart. He especially loved fishing despite not catching as many fish as his family, riding ATV's throughout the Rockies and roasting marshmallows around the campfire. He loved everything baseball, enjoyed playing competitive softball into his 40's and most of all loved playing catch with his boys.

There are so many things that we will miss about Gary. He was an immovable rock and a fount of strength for his family. He was as kind to a stranger as he was to his friends. He always had a corny joke or pun at the ready and couldn't wait to unleash them on anyone that he talked to. He worked hard and diligently in everything that he did. He was seldom in a down mood and did his darndest to make sure everyone around him was in good spirits. He was as wise as he was funny and made sure he was there for anyone and everyone who needed him. He was a big personality in every sense of the word but at the same time was the world's biggest teddy bear. Gary's legacy will continue in our hearts and minds as we remember how he tried every day to make a positive impact on someone's life. It could be making a stranger laugh or building up a colleague, those little moments that made a big difference. He was a fantastic friend, brother, husband, and father. And, he will be missed greatly but forever in our hearts!

Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Rogers; sons Wade Rogers and Tyler Rogers; and siblings, Brenda (Jack) Hansen, Patty (Mike) Moonan, and Debbie Rogers; as well as many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
